What you get with Authect's automotive software development

Modern vehicles are defined as much by software as by hardware, and drivers expect their car to work as smoothly as their phone. Authect builds the software around the vehicle: companion apps, telematics and fleet platforms, infotainment interfaces and the cloud services that connect them. We work as a small team led by the founders and senior engineers, so the people who scope your product are the people who build it.

Vehicle software has to be secure, updatable and dependable over many years of use. We design with secure vehicle-to-cloud communication, careful handling of driver data and clear boundaries between connected features and safety-critical systems, and hand you code and infrastructure you own outright.

How we help automotive businesses move faster

  1. 01

Get connected features to market sooner

We prototype and ship focused releases quickly, validating ideas with real users and real vehicle data before committing to a full programme.

  2. 02

    Turn vehicle data into decisions

Clean, well-modelled telematics and diagnostic data lets product, service and fleet teams spot faults early and see how vehicles are actually used.

  3. 03

    Reduce security and privacy risk

Secure communication, least-privilege access, signed updates and careful handling of location and driver data are designed into every connected service.

  4. 04

Keep software maintainable over the vehicle's life

Documented architectures, automated tests and clean interfaces make it practical to update and extend features long after the first release.

The automotive solutions we build

Whether you are launching a connected service, building a fleet product or modernising dealer and service tools, we cover the full journey: discovery, design, engineering, launch and ongoing support, with a founder accountable at every step.

  1. Connected car apps

Mobile and wearable apps for remote lock, climate, charging, location and vehicle status, connected securely to your backend and vehicle platform.

  2. Telematics platforms

Cloud services that ingest, store and process vehicle data at scale, with APIs and dashboards for internal teams and partners.

  3. Infotainment and HMI

In-vehicle interfaces and apps designed for glanceable use and minimal distraction, built for Android Automotive and similar platforms.

  4. Fleet and mobility services

Fleet management, car sharing, rental and subscription platforms covering bookings, keyless access, usage tracking and billing.

  5. Predictive maintenance

Models and tools that use diagnostic and sensor data to anticipate failures, schedule service and reduce unplanned downtime.

  6. Dealer and aftersales tools

Service booking, vehicle history, parts lookup and customer communication tools that connect dealers, workshops and drivers.

Our automotive domain expertise

Connected vehicles

Vehicle-to-cloud communication, remote features, over-the-air update workflows and the backend services that keep large volumes of messages flowing reliably. We build ingestion services that cope with vehicles moving in and out of coverage, device identity and certificate management, remote commands with clear confirmation, and update campaigns that roll out in stages and can be paused, all kept separate from safety-critical vehicle functions.

Electric vehicles

Charging apps, battery health insights, route planning with charging stops and integrations with charge point networks and home chargers. We build driver apps for scheduling charging around tariffs, finding and paying at public chargers and planning longer trips, connect them to vehicle data, charge point operators and energy suppliers, and turn battery readings into health insights drivers and fleet managers can understand.

Fleet and commercial vehicles

Telematics, driver apps, maintenance planning and cost reporting for operators running vans, trucks, buses or mixed fleets. We combine manufacturer vehicle data and aftermarket telematics in one platform, turn diagnostic codes into service tasks, give drivers apps for walkaround checks, defects and documents, and report on utilisation, fuel or energy use and cost, so operators can see where time and money go.

Shared and rental mobility

Booking, keyless access, damage reporting, pricing and billing for car sharing, rental and subscription services. We build customer apps that handle sign-up, licence checks, booking and digital keys, connect to in-vehicle access hardware and telematics, let users record damage with photos at pick-up and return, and give operations teams tools for pricing, availability, cleaning and charging.

Driver assistance data

Data pipelines, labelling tools, simulation support and analytics that help engineering teams develop and validate driver assistance features. We build pipelines that ingest and index large volumes of camera, radar and vehicle-bus recordings, tools for finding and labelling scenarios, and dashboards for test results, while the driver assistance software itself and its functional safety stay with your engineering teams.

How we work

Our approach to automotive software development

  1. 01

    Discovery and scoping

A founder works through the vehicle platform with your teams: what data it exposes, how it connects, which OEM interfaces apply and where safety-critical systems begin. You get a written scope, an architecture outline and a price.

  2. 02

    Design and prototyping

We prototype companion apps and in-vehicle screens and test them with drivers in realistic conditions, checking glanceability and distraction for in-car use, so problems surface while they are cheap to fix and before platform reviews.

  3. 03

    Build in short iterations

Two-week iterations with working software at the end of each. We test against recorded vehicle data, simulators and bench hardware before real vehicles, so dropped connections, delayed messages and odd signal values are handled before drivers meet them.

  4. 04

    Launch and hardening

We set up monitoring, secure key and certificate handling and staged rollouts, support penetration testing with the partners you choose, and plan over-the-air and app releases so each one can be paused or rolled back.

  5. 05

    Support over the vehicle's life

Vehicles stay on the road for years, so the same team stays with you: updating apps for new platform versions, adapting to new models and data, keeping dependencies patched and building features as your service grows.

Why develop your automotive software with Authect

  • Founders on every project

The founders who scope your connected service are part of the team that builds and maintains it. Decisions about vehicle data, cloud architecture and apps are made by the engineers doing the work, not relayed through a salesperson.

  • Security and longevity by design

Threat modelling, encrypted communication, signed updates and least-privilege access are standard, and clear boundaries keep our software apart from safety-critical functions. We work alongside your cybersecurity team so the standards you follow shape the design early.

  • You own everything

Code, data models, documentation and infrastructure live in accounts you control from day one, which matters for software that has to outlast a vehicle generation. Your engineers or any other team can take it forward.

Automotive software development FAQs

What is automotive software development?

It is the design and engineering of software for vehicles and the services around them: connected car apps, telematics platforms, infotainment interfaces, fleet and mobility services, and the data systems behind them. Compared with other software, it puts extra weight on security, reliability, long product lifecycles and integration with vehicle hardware.

Do you build safety-critical embedded software, such as braking or powertrain control?

No. We focus on connected services, apps, interfaces, cloud platforms and data, and design clear boundaries between those and safety-critical vehicle functions. Where our software interfaces with systems developed under ISO 26262 or AUTOSAR, we work to the interfaces and processes your engineering teams define, and they remain responsible for functional safety.

How do you handle vehicle cybersecurity and standards such as ISO/SAE 21434?

We start with a threat model, then build in strong authentication, encrypted communication, signed updates, least-privilege access and detailed logging. We can produce the design and test documentation your cybersecurity management process needs, while your organisation remains responsible for type approval and compliance.

Can you build apps for Android Automotive, Android Auto or CarPlay?

Yes. We design in-vehicle apps around each platform's guidelines for driver distraction and layout, and build companion mobile apps that share the same backend, so features feel consistent wherever the driver uses them.

How do you protect driver and location data?

We collect only the data a feature needs, encrypt it in transit and at rest, limit access by role, and support consent, retention and deletion rules. Your legal and privacy teams remain responsible for your data protection position, and we provide the technical documentation they need.

Tell us what you’re building. A founder replies within one working day, and builds it with you.

We will add your details to our CRM so we can contact you about your request. For more information, read our privacy policy.
